Modern Chemical
Techniques
Useful book to explain some modern
techniques and video to illustrate what the instruments involved look like and
how they are used. There is a five-minute video clip for each technique, and
corresponding chapter of the book.
The book is designed to give
teachers and students an introduction to the basic theories behind the
techniques without delving too deeply into the Mathematics and Physics
involved. More advanced ideas are included for the keen reader, but in boxes so
they may be easily omitted without disadvantaging other readers. Some exercises
on each technique are provided in the book.
Techniques covered are:
- mass spectrometry
- nuclear magnetic resonance
spectroscopy
- infrared spectroscopy
- chromatography
- electron microscopy
- following synthetic routes
