Chemistry Now - Chemistry
and Sport
One of a series of leaflets - Chemistry Now - designed to
present modern aspects of chemistry in a way that is accessible to school
students and directly usable by teachers.
Chemistry and Sport is aimed at 14-16 year olds and deals
with the chemistry of aerobic and anaerobic respiration in the context of
athletics. It looks at a number of ways in which athletics can manipulate
(legally!) the chemistry of this process to their advantage by monitoring the
concentration of lactic acid in their blood.
