Education Issues No. 24
University Reforms in Europe, The Bologna Process
Education Issues is an
occasional series of publications written for those who, although not directly
involved in education, are interested in developments within the education
system.
This booklet outlines the main
points in the Bologna Declaration - a document signed in 1999 by 29 European
countries, committing their countries to adopt a 'common framework of readable
and comparable degrees' and thus 'create a European space for higher education'
by 2010. The main issues include how the framework might work, post-Bologna
discussions and the issues for chemistry in the UK.
