Practical Chemistry for Schools and Colleges

Important safety information

Students should not carry out any of the experiments described here without the knowledge of, and supervision by, their teacher.

The Royal Society of Chemistry believes that the activities described are compatible with risk assessments widely adopted in the UK such as those published by the Consortium of Local Authorities for the Provision of Science Services (CLEAPPS), The Association for Science Education (ASE), The Department for Education and Employment (DfEE) and The Scottish Schools Equipment Research Centre (SSERC). It is the duty of teachers to check that these follow any local requirements.

Appropriate control measures, such as the wearing of protective clothing and eye protection, should be employed at all times in the laboratory.
