Using the 'curly arrow' notation

The aim of this site is to help students learn about using the 'curly arrow' notation for reaction mechanisms in organic chemistry. There is an introduction about notation and also about the role of lone pairs and electronics in mechanisms. There are interactive questions on a range of mechanisms including nucleophilic substitution, elimination, alkene reactions, nucleophilic addition to carbonyls and electrophilic aromatic substitution. Users employ 'drag and drop' to show electron movement. This will be of great value in post-18 education when used alongside ordinary texts. The first few examples in each section will also be of use to candidates following advanced courses post-16 but they may be a little confused by the use of 'Me' or 'Et' abbreviations.
