Introduction
As the scientific study of sport improves, the impetus to provide athletes
with a more competitive edge is for ever increasing and understanding the
physics and mechanics behind what athletes do, how they do it and what
limits their abilities is critical. An insight into the issues facing a sports
scientist, this lecture will look at why long jumpers don't jump, what limits
the marathon world record and why bigger is not better on a bike.
