Improving the Energy Balance of the Urban Water Cycle

Introduction
The morning session ‘INNERS and People’ will commence at 10.00 with an opening welcome from the Mayor of Kirklees.
This session will include presentations on a social housing project in Dewsbury where heat is recovered from the interaction of soils with the infiltration of rainwater, a sustainable swimming pool in the Netherlands heated from waste water, the heating of 92 residential apartments in Belgium using energy recovered from the public sewer, and EU policy on energy use and recovery within the urban water cycle.

The afternoon session ‘Energy recovery and re-use’ will start at 13:15.
This session will include presentations on the activities undertaken by water industry professionals and modelling experts. These will include work on the DEAMON reactor, DEUGD (black/grey water separation to enhance biogas recovery) projects, waste water plant supplied local heat grids, EOS (Energy Optimisation and Benchmarking System) for waste water treatment plants and sewer network heat recovery modelling for the city of Antwerp. The event will finish at 15.00.
