Fully booked: Two Days of Lab Sessions on Chemical Synthesis at University of Manchester

6 July 2016 10:00 - 7 July 2016 16:00, Manchester, United Kingdom

Introduction
This event, focused in the practical aspects of experimental chemistry, will give a broad overview on modern chemistry research and its transfer into valuable molecules for the pharmaceutical and agrochemical industry. The participants will synthesise urea, a compound produced by living organisms, starting from inorganic components. Also, they will synthesise trans- and/or cis-platin, one of the first drugs in anticancer therapy. Introductory talks regarding the background, experimental aspects of each experiment and their impact in our society will be delivered. The characterisation of the synthesised samples will also be covered with particular emphasis on infrared spectroscopy (IR) techniques.

ChemNet members will also have the opportunity to have a tour of the Chemistry Department and given an insight of research activities taking place.

This is a non-residential event and students attending MUST be able to attend both days 6-7 July 10:00 - 16:00 each day. Only 20 spaces available.
