42nd IUPAC Congress - Chemistry Solutions

2 - 7 August 2009, Glasgow, United Kingdom

Introduction
During August 2009, the RSC welcomed scientists from all over the world to Glasgow's iconic Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre (SECC) for one of the most important international chemistry conferences. The conference opened with a ceremony in the Clyde Auditorium, affectionately known as the 'Armadillo' on the bank of the river Clyde, followed by a welcome reception in the Glasgow Science Centre.

The congress programme featured around 50 symposia, which demonstrated the impact of the chemical sciences, highlighting exciting innovations with an overall focus on 'Chemistry Solutions'.

There was a vast range of topics and talks to choose from with up to 17 parallel sessions taking place each day, and satellite meetings running during lunch breaks and in the evenings.

The exhibition and poster displays provided a focal point for the congress, with over 2000 delegates visiting at various points throughout each day.

The gala evening was held at the Kelvingrove Museum and Art Gallery and was attended by around 500 delegates.
