Mentoring for early career chemistry teachers

30 August 2019 11:00 - 6 September 2019 16:00, United Kingdom

Introduction
The Royal Society of Chemistry is looking for mentees and mentors to join a free mentoring scheme.

The scheme pairs early career chemistry teachers with experienced chemistry teachers for subject-specific mentoring in Scotland. It focuses on rural and remote teachers. You only need to attend a one-day training session before your mentoring proceeds remotely at your own pace.

Mentees will be provided with a dedicated, experienced teacher of chemistry in order to discuss and work on areas of importance to the mentee, such as pedagogy, differentiation, career progression and practical science.

Mentors will be trained and supported to provide effective mentoring. Not only is this a rewarding experience in itself, but it also develops management and leadership skills.

It will run from 2019–2020, with funding available to cover travel costs up to £40 to attend a training event.

Click the Book Now button in the top right to fill out the questionnaire and sign up.

This event is being supported by Education Scotland’s Enhancing Professional Learning in STEM Grants Programme through the Scottish Government STEM Education and Training Strategy.

Who can sign up?

Mentees should have up to five years of teaching experience. They should teach at least five hours of chemistry per week, at any level, including BGE and environmental science. Preference will be given to mentees in rural or remote locations, but all interested teachers should apply.

Mentors should have over five years of experience. They should teach at least five hours of chemistry per week, at any level, including BGE and environmental science. They should also have experience of mentoring, or the confidence and interest to develop mentoring skills.
