Second Joint NSFC-RSC Symposium on Sustainable Chemistry and Processes

19 - 20 September 2019, York, United Kingdom

Introduction
Continuous innovation in green and sustainable chemistry is tremendously important in our everyday lives and will be vital in helping the world respond to some of its biggest sustainability challenges. This symposium, co-organised by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the Royal Society of Chemistry, will bring together leading Chinese and UK researchers in sustainable chemistry in order to share expertise and best practice and discuss cutting edge research and applications. The venue is the University of York, a global centre of excellence for green and sustainable chemistry. During the course of the two days of the meeting established scientists and outstanding early career researchers will deliver a series of invited talks. In addition, there will be a poster session for young researchers and students to participate with prizes awarded for the best posters.

The theme of sustainable chemistry and processes is an area of great importance, supporting the achievement of the sustainable development goals. Topics of the symposium include:
  • Green chemicals and biomass processing
  • Catalysis
  • Gas storage and utilisation
  • Continuous flow processes
  •  Porous materials
The organisers are also delighted to announce that the symposium will feature the presentation of the RSC 2018 Green Chemistry Award to Professor James Clark, for the promotion of applied, market-driven green chemistry and engagement with industry and policymakers. The presentation will be followed by a lecture.

Grants for Carers

Grants for carers have been introduced following the Royal Society of Chemistry Breaking the barriers report where 78% of chemists working in UK academia felt that managing parenting and/or caring responsibilities has an impact on women’s retention and progression. This fund is not limited to women scientists and welcomes applications from anyone with caring responsibilities, for more information please refer to the ‘bursaries’ section on this page.

You are eligible to apply if:
  • you are a chemist
  • you will incur additional caring expenses whilst attending a chemistry-related meeting, conference, event or workshop or a professional development event
  • you will use these funds to cover the cost of care that you usually provide
