The Chemistry Communicators Challenge

Introduction

Deliver an engaging and interesting talk on Chemistry, spend an evening alongside other enthusiastic chemists and science communicators, and win prizes! What more could you ask for!

To celebrate the International Year of the Periodic Table (IYPT), we are inviting individuals to deliver talks on the following themes:

  1. An Element of the Periodic Table – Talks could cover the discoverer, the history, the uses or interesting ‘quirks’ of physical or chemical properties of a given element. Talks could also cover the story of the individual(s) who first discovered the element.

  2. Elements in our everyday lives – Talks should cover the chemistry and application or product where an element plays a key role.  


 Each speaker is given 10 minutes to present on their chosen topic with, or without, a PowerPoint presentation (no other visual aids permitted).

The event will take place on the 20th November from 6 – 9.30 pm at the RSC, Burlington House. Light refreshments will be provided. 


To apply to present:

Please submit an abstract of your talk, in no more than 150 words (including 1 diagram if you choose) to rsccmsecretary@outlook.com by midnight of the 1st November. Please indicate which themed talk you are applying for by including the theme in your title.

Registration is independent of abstract submission, is required for all accepted speakers and anyone wishing to attend and is FREE. Please click 'BOOK NOW' at the top of this page.
 

Terms & Conditions:
  1. Applications that are not submitted by the deadline will not be considered for the event.

  2. Applications that do not meet the criteria for submission will not be considered.

  3. The organising committee as well as the judge’s decision are final in terms of submission and prize winners.

  4. Pre-registration is required to attend the event, including for unsuccessful applicants.
