New to Teaching AS Level Chemistry

Teacher CPD funded by the RSC Empowerment Fund
 
This course is for teachers who are teaching AS Level Chemistry for the first time, or need further guidance.

Course Description:
The course will be broken down into 5 sessions to cover key topics and concepts from AS Level Chemistry, generic to all exam boards:
  • Atomic Structure, including how to model the most complex abstract concepts
  • Bonding, including addressing misconceptions that students have from their GCSE knowledge
  • Energetics, including practicals related to this content and how these could be assessed against Practical Competencies
  • Inorganic Chemistry, including titrations, redox and mole calculations
  • Organic Chemistry, including mechanisms, nomenclature and practical use of quick fit apparatus
Throughout the day there will be opportunities to address student misconceptions, as well observing teaching and learning techniques to support the teaching of AS Level Chemistry concepts.
