'Magic, Folk Medicine and Modern Drug Discovery’

Introduction
David Witty will be giving his perspective on the development of drugs from folk medicines in the age of alchemy, through the first scientific drug discoveries and onto the medicines of today. The talk will have a particular focus on the development of analgesics and cancer medications and will consider what innovations the high-tech treatments of tomorrow might exhibit
David Witty has spent four decades in drug discovery R&D as a Research Chemist, Entrepreneur and Consultant and has published over 100 papers, patents and books on chemistry and its medicinal applications. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, on the Board of the Society of Chemical Industry and is now a Director of Witnet Ltd., a Biotechnology Business and Education Consultancy. He also works as a STEM Ambassador in Hertfordshire schools and holds the RSC’s 2019-2020 Biological and Medicinal Chemistry Sector (BMCS) Lectureship.
