Aimed at the public and established chemists alike, the IYPT Lectures will feature some of the most exciting science communicators in the field of chemistry, whose talks will bring the periodic table of elements to life.

About the lecture

The Dublin edition is titled, 'The Chemistry of Curry'.

Food Glorious Food winner, Cook Rahila Hussain teams up with University of Wolverhampton Chemist Professor Nazira Karodia to explore  the science behind the nation’s favourite food dish.
The Chemistry of Curry demonstration lecture will take you through a spicy and aromatic trail of the periodic table to find the elements that make us. Nazira will explain the essential ingredients in curry and will explore the molecular reactions and medicinal benefits of spices such as cardamom, cumin, cloves, coriander, cinnamon and pepper. At the same time, Rahila will give a practical demonstration on how to combine the ingredients to produce the flavour of curry dishes as she cooks samples of her signature dishes.

We encourage you to arrive 15 minutes before the advertised start time in order to get a seat. IYPT Lectures are generally timed to last from 40 - 50 minutes.
