Biochemistry governs all living organisms and living matter and involves the study of the complex chemical processes that take part in both living organisms and living matter. The vast majority of biochemistry covers the structures and functions of cellular components such as proteins, carbrohydrates, lipids, nucleic acids, and other biomolecules. Historically, biochemistry has been utilized in many fields of science, especially that of medicine and pharmaceuticals. The main focus of biochemistry today is the understanding of the roles that biological molecules play in the larger scheme of life and life processes.
