Overview
From Learn Chemistry Wiki
This page provides an overview of the Learn Chemistry Wiki website, which is organised by the Royal Society of Chemistry.
Resources on this site are organised by namespace, which indicate what type of content is on the page. The main namespace has no additional namespace word; the other namespaces include a word + colon that indicates the type of content.
- Main namespace: Used for general "textbook-type" educational content, e.g., Air quality and climate.
- Learn_Chemistry_Wiki: Provides information about the website, e.g., this page.
- Substance: Pages about chemical substances, e.g., Substance:Benzil. See List of substances.
- Lab: Lab experiments, including background notes, questions, etc., e.g., Lab:Preparing biodiesel
- Expt: Experimental procedures to go with labs, e.g., Expt:Preparing biodiesel
- TeacherExpt: Teacher & technician notes on experimental procedures, e.g., TeacherExpt:Preparing biodiesel
- Quiz: Quiz pages used for self testing or in-class quizzing, e.g., Quiz:OrganicQ01
- File: Media files such as pictures or videos, e.g., File:RightReactionArrow.png
By default, all content is shared under a CC-BY-NC-SA 3.0 license.
Images are uploaded using the "Upload file" command (see menu at left), and are currently put in an image category. Be sure to include any copyright information when uploading. ChemSpider structure images can be directly copied into a page that has the name Template:###### or Substance:###### (where ###### is the ChemSpider ID) by pasting the syntax {{CSIDStart}}{{subst:PAGENAME}}{{CSIDEnd}} into the page (this defaults to an image 100x100px). In order to ensure that structure images can be transcluded in at the right size for each application, we are choosing to create templates for all structures used, placed into <noinclude>[[Category:Organic substance templates]]</noinclude>.
