Effect of amino substitution on the excited state dynamics of uracil
Ákos Bányász, Thomas Gustavsson, Ern
Keszei, Roberto Improta and Dimitra Markovitsi,
Photochem. Photobiol. Sci., 2008, 7, 765
DOI: 10.1039/b800764k

The fluorescence decays of 5-aminouracil display a strong wavelength dependence and are much slower than those of the other uracils studied. This difference is assigned to the particular character of the amino group, which hinders the conformational relaxation responsible for the ultrafast internal conversion occurring in uracil.
