The long sought hexamethylhydrazinium(2+) dication, Me₃N–NMe₃²⁺, calculationally unstable towards coulombic explosion because of formal positive charges on adjacent N atoms, can be synthesized and isolated as a CHB₁₁Cl₁₁^- carborane salt.
