Synthesis, properties, and 77Se nuclear magnetic resonance studies of platinum metal complexes of two isomeric tris(selenoethers), MeC(CH2SeMe)3 and Se(CH2CH2CH2SeMe)2
Eric G. Hope, William Levason, Stephen G. Murray and Gregory L. Marshall
The synthesis and properties of platinum metal complexes of MeC(CH2SeMe)3(tmse) and (MeSeCH2CH2CH2)2Se (bmsp), including diamagnetic [M(tmse)Cl2](M = Pd or Pt), [M
(tmse)Cl3](M
= Rh or Ir), [Pd(bmsp)Cl2], [Pt(bmsp)Cl]PF6, and [M
(bmsp)Cl3] are described. Paramagnetic [RuLCl3], [OsLCl4], and [OsLCl3](L = tmse or bmsp) are also reported. The complexes were characterised by i.r., electronic, and 1H n.m.r. spectroscopy or magnetic measurements as appropriate. For the diamagnetic complexes, 77Se and 195Pt n.m.r. spectroscopy have been used to identify the major invertomers present. Complexes of the trithioether analogues are briefly described.
