Copper complexes of 1,1-di(2-pyridyl)ethyl methyl ether: X-ray crystal structures and reactions with dioxygen

Abstract

The mixed-valence complexes [CuIIL13][CuI2I4](L1= di-2-pyridyl ketone), [CuII(HL2)2][CuI2I4][HL2= 1,1-di(2-pyridyl)ethanol] and [CuIIL32][CuI2I4][L3= 1,1-di(2-pyridyl)ethyl methyl ether] have been isolated from the reactions of CuI with the respective ligands. On interactions with dioxygen the last two complexes are oxidised to [CuII2L22I2] and [CuII2L32(OH)2][CuII3] respectively. The X-ray crystal structures of [CuIIL32][CuI2I4] and [CuII2L32(OH)2][CuII3] are reported.
