The journal covers all areas of natural products research including isolation, structural and stereochemical determination, biosynthesis, biological activity and synthesis.

The scope of the journal is very broad and many reviews discuss the role of natural products in the wider bioinorganic, bioorganic and chemical biology communities. Areas covered include enzymology, nucleic acids, genetics, chemical ecology, carbohydrates, primary and secondary metabolism and analytical techniques.

The following types of articles are published in NPR

Review articles  can be a comprehensive overviews of an area or an in-depth critique of a more specialist area of work. These articles are generally between 10 and 25 pages in length.

Highlight articles  are shorter, non-comprehensive reviews which give a 'snapshot' of a specialist research area. These articles are between 4 and 8 pages in length.

Viewpoint articles are short articles which focus on some of the key challenges in natural products research. They are up to 4 pages in length.

Hot off the Press articles are a bi-monthly digest of the latest natural products research, written by Bob Hill and Andrew Sutherland at the University of Glasgow, UK.

Reviews, Highlights and Viewpoints in NPR  are generally solicited by members of the editorial board, and synopses for all proposed reviews are considered by the board before full articles are commissioned.

If you have an idea for a review which you would like the editorial board to consider, any suggestions for the journal, or if you would like to discuss anything with the editor, please contact us at the address below.

You can also find further information on the submission of synopses and articles below.
