About the Owner Societies

The objective of the EUROPEAN PHOTOCHEMISTRY ASSOCIATION is to promote the development of photochemistry in Europe and contacts among photochemists. The Association is concerned with various experimental and theoretical aspects of the interaction of light with molecular systems, ranging from basic knowledge and practical know-how in photochemistry to application in areas such as chemical synthesis, electronics, material science, nanotechnology, biology and medicine. 

The objectives of the EPA are currently pursued by:

- the ownership and publication of the peered-reviewed scientific journal "Photochemical and Photobiological Sciences" 

- the publication of the "EPA Newsletter"

- the award of a Prize for PhD Thesis in Photochemistry

- the organisation of summer schools on selected aspects and the active involvement in international symposia and conferences

- offering its members a discussion forum and information exchange via its website and e-mailing list

- collaborating with Photochemistry Commission of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry and sister scientific societies to foster intercontinental cooperation

The European Society for Photobiology (ESP) aims to stimulate and facilitate the interchange between photobiologists in Europe and neighbouring countries. Photobiology deals with chemical and/or physical changes in biological systems induced by radiation, and subsequent responses.

The aims of the ESP include the promotion of contacts between photobiologists and photobiology groups in Europe. In particular to establish meetings capable of developing interest and research in photobiology in Europe, to promote photobiology amongst governmental and industrial sponsors of scientific research and to use available resources to facilitate collaborative research between members. The ESP currently has around 800 members.

The Asia and Oceania Society for Photobiology (AOSP) aims to promote the science of photobiology in Asian and Oceanian regions through the affiliation with Photochemical & Photobiological Sciences as its official journal, with the aims and scope compatible with the other societies.

 

 

The Korean Society of Photoscience (KSP) ceased production of its official publication Journal of Photoscienceas at the end of 2005. In its place, the KSP affiliates with Photochemical & Photobiological Sciences as its new official journal, with the aims and scope compatible with the other sister societies including ESP, EPA and AOSP.
