The Royal Society of Chemistry continues to pioneer scientific Links with devolved bodies, developing relations between the scientific community and members of the Northern Ireland Assembly.

In January 2012 the University of Ulster was host to a meeting of learned societies, with the RSC in attendance, as a precursor to the establishment of an All Party Group for the Northern Ireland science, engineering and technology community.

Many issues were explored, ranging from how to facilitate networking between scientists of different disciplines, to the challenging the public perception of chemists as 'men in white coats'. In addition, the name of the new All Party Group was also discussed.

It is anticiplated that the All Party Group will be formally established in Stormont on 20 February 2012, and details of further progress are to follow.
