RSC Paperbacks
About the Series
The RSC Paperbacks give clear, readable introductions to selected topics in chemistry. They provide background material for special topic studies such as are being introduced in A-level courses and Further and Higher Education, but these topics will also appeal to a more general readership.
The level and style is appropriate for students in polytechnics or universities and the subject matter should be readily digestible to a teacher who graduated some time ago. Any chemical knowledge that is assumed is post A-level rather than degree level. Terms and techniques that are not part of mainstream chemistry at this level are explained in more detail and references to other publication are kept to minimum although suggestions for further reading are often listed.
In subjects of a more interdisciplinary nature, space is allocated in the introductory sections for setting out the chemical relevance of the subject and explaining some of the terms in the other disciplines involved. Paperbacks are around 150 pages in length.
Although primarily intended for educational use, these books will also appeal to the general chemist and as such do not strictly tie into specific syllabus requirement.
All chemists must move with the times and the RSC Paperbacks provide a series of titles which reflect the developing areas of chemistry, and provide readable and affordable introductions to topics of general interest.
Authors should provide a synopsis of the proposed book that will be reviewed prior to acceptance. The final manuscript will be refereed by two referees, one from an educational background and the other from an academic one, who will be asked to give consideration to the correctness of facts and style of presentation. Acceptance of the manuscript would then be conditional on the author responding to comments from referees
