The diagrams in the lower part show the mean fitness value of the best individuals after 150 generations, averaged over three separate runs. Target pulse 1 corresponds to the sample pulse of Fig. 2. The error bars indicate the standard deviation of the three runs. All fitness values were normalized to the fitness of the unshaped pulse (blue dashed horizontal line).
