In the penultimate sentence of section 2.3, "SiO₂" should be replaced by "TiO₂". The last two sentences of section 2.3 should therefore read:

"Finally, the diameter opening was reduced by depositing an atomic layer of TiO₂. Recordings of the pore (Fig. 12B) showed that the switching of the ion current was possible only at low ionic strengths as only under these conditions a sufficiently thick electrical double-layer could form."

The Royal Society of Chemistry apologises for this error and any consequent inconvenience to authors and readers.
