[Co2(L2a-2H)(OMe)](ClO4)(H2O)1.8 (1)

L2a was omitted from Chart 1.

Synthesis of L2a

Butanedione monoxime was reacted with the half-hydrazone produced from the reaction of carbohydrazide with one equivalent of 2-acetylpyridine. The ligand was obtained in an impure state as a beige solid, and was reacted with Co(ClO4)2, in part to characterize it. Orange crystals of 1 were obtained in low yield and the structure determined, revealing a dinuclear Co(III) complex, and confirming the identity of the ligand.
