Fleming-Tamao Oxidation (Kumada-Fleming-Tamao Oxidation, Fleming Oxidation, Tamao-Kumada Oxidation)

Mild, stereospecific oxidation of a silyl group to give the corresponding hydroxyl group. Fleming and Tamao independently reported that silyl functionalities can serve as masked alcohols. Fleming's reaction sequence requires conversion of the SiMe2Ph group to the corresponding halosilane before oxidation while Tamao's procedure involves direct halosilane oxidation:
