Weinreb Ketone Synthesis

Preparation of a functionalized ketone by the addition of an organometallic reagent to the corresponding N-methoxy-N-methylamide (Weinreb amide). Alternately, an aldehyde can be synthesized via Weinreb amide reduction with lithium aluminum hydride or diisobutylaluminum hydride:
