The Chemical Sciences Security Group (CSSG) aims to raise awareness of strategic research areas within Crime Reduction and National Security in order to facilitate constructive interactions between academia, Research Councils and government to stimulate effective collaboration and exploitation of chemical sciences research.
CSSG is working in partnership with the Royal Society of Chemistry to build on the success of a similar RSC/ government group (‘Chemical Sciences in Government’) which met between 2004 and 2009.
The Chemical Sciences Security Steering Group (CS3G) held its inaugural meeting at the RSC, Burlington House, in May 2014, bringing together government scientists and a range of academics with relevant research interests. The government members of CS3G are technical managers within departments and agencies, such as the Ministry of Defence, Home Office and Department for Transport. Their aim is to articulate technical requirements which align with government policy in order to harness ideas and innovation from the UK academic community.
CSSG will promote government-funded innovative research calls, and organise networking workshops in relevant areas of the chemical sciences. These will be publicised on the CSSG MyRSC pages.
