Celebrating National Apprenticeship Week
This week is the tenth annual National Apprenticeship Week, and to mark the occasion we’re offering apprentices the chance to join us as a member at a discounted rate. Vocational Skills Manager Richard Holliday discusses the increasing popularity of apprenticeships, and what else we’re doing to mark the week.
National Apprenticeship Week is an annual celebration of the value of apprenticeships in the UK. Each year the event highlights the positive impact apprenticeships make to business, individuals and the wider economy.
Over recent years, apprenticeships have become increasingly popular, as more people are realising they provide a valuable combination of qualifications, skill development and work experience, all within a structured environment. With opportunities to now study higher level apprenticeships, individuals are realising the choice doesn’t have to be university or apprenticeships – it can be both.
Last year alone, over half a million people started an apprenticeship in England, and this is only set to grow further with the introduction of the apprenticeship levy and apprenticeships being reformed to be more flexible.
This is the tenth National Apprenticeship Week and each year a huge variety of activities take place - employers have pledged to recruit more apprentices, training providers have hosted events and there have been features in national news and increased social media conversation (watch out on twitter for #NAW2017).
To mark the tenth anniversary we are offering apprentices the chance to join as a member for the discounted rate of just £10. This is a one-week-only offer. If you are an apprentice, please email us, quoting ‘apprenticeship week’ to find out more.
We are also hosting an apprenticeship breakfast seminar in conjunction with Cambridge Regional College at Thomas Graham House, Cambridge, on 10 March. The event is aimed at employers and designed to explore the benefits of apprenticeships and how they operate. Find out more and register.
