Our chief executive, Robert Parker paid tribute to Professor Maitland, who as well as being a former president of our sister society, the Institution of Chemical Engineers, is both a trustee of our governing Council and chair of our Publishing Board.
Dr Parker said: "For many years, in addition to his work at Imperial College and in industry, Geoff has played a leading role in our journals operations, which see us publishing ground-breaking chemistry research from all around the world.
"Geoff is a committed and respected member of our governing Council, so I am really pleased to see him receive this accolade."
In a news piece from Imperial College, Professor Maitland said: "It is a great honour to be recognised by HM The Queen in this way.
"I feel it is also recognition of the contributions and support I have received throughout my career from a wide range of superb students, colleagues and collaborators, as well as from my family and close friends."
