Get ready for National Apprenticeship Week: 5–9 March
We’ll be highlighting the benefits of apprenticeships and what we do to support them – and we are offering reduced membership fees to apprentices who join us that week.
Now in its 11th year, National Apprenticeship Week, is a week-long celebration of apprenticeships coordinated by the UK government’s National Apprenticeship Service. The theme this year is ‘apprenticeships work’ to showcase how apprenticeships work for individuals, employers, local communities and the wider economy.
Over recent years, apprenticeships have become increasingly popular, as more people are realising they provide a valuable combination of qualifications, skill development and work experience, all within a structured environment.
With opportunities to study higher-level apprenticeships, that are the equivalent of a degree qualification, people are realising the choice doesn’t have to be university or an apprenticeship – it can be both.
Throughout the week, employers, colleges and training providers will be holding events for people to find out more about apprenticeships, so have a look at the event map to see what’s happening near you.
We’re offering current apprentices, who work in the chemical sciences, access to our membership for just £10. The offer is available for the duration of the week and will enable apprentices that aren’t currently members to join our membership community as Affiliates. Email us at registers@rsc.org, quoting ‘National Apprenticeship Week’ in the subject, to find out more.
We’re also getting involved in a number of activities – Alice O’Connor, our vocational registration specialist, will be shadowing an apprentice at AstraZeneca, and our president Professor Sir John Holman will be visiting LGC Fordham to try some of the practical work that their apprentices do day-to-day. Keep an eye on our news pages throughout the week to see how they get on.
You can also join the conversation on social media. The National Apprenticeship Service are asking everyone involved in apprenticeships to share their stories on Twitter with #WorksForMe, and you can keep up to date with all of the activity using #NAW2018. Visit the website to find out more about how you can get involved.
