North Staffordshire students compete in Top of the Bench regional final
The Top of the Bench North Staffordshire regional final took place last week at Keele University with the winning team representing Adams' Grammar School in Newport.
Run by volunteers from our North Staffordshire Local Section, the competition sees teams from local schools participating in a range of chemistry challenges.
The student teams competed in written and practical challenges while their teachers took part in a workshop on maths for chemistry and were given an overview of the support on offer to them from our local sections.
The prize-giving ceremony followed an interactive demo lecture on the chemistry of the five senses, which saw the audience eating canned spinach in the name of science! The winning team was from Adams' Grammar School in Newport. Blythe Bridge High School from Stoke-on-Trent came a close second, and received science dictionaries kindly donated by BASF as a consolation.
Our Midlands education coordinator Heidi Dobbs would like to thank Katherine Haxton, Richard Darton and Daniela Plana of the North Staffordshire Local Section for running a hugely fun and very successful event.
