Training vouchers
At the Royal Society of Chemistry, we know that one of the biggest challenges facing the chemical sciences industry is a shortage of people with the necessary skills to help their business grow. In particular, SMEs may struggle to upskill their workforce due to a lack of time or finances.
Therefore, we are offering training vouchers, each worth up to £1,000, to reimburse the cost of a training course for a staff member at one of our EnterprisePlus companies, as well as a dedicated CPD resource that you may find helpful to identify and record your training needs.
Find out how our training vouchers scheme has helped the Bio-Analysis Centre move towards GLP compliance here.
The voucher may be used for technical, business or 'soft skills' training: whichever most closely meets your needs. Any course from a reputable supplier is potentially eligible.
You may wish to look at the list of training courses that have been approved by the Royal Society of Chemistry. These are quality training courses for chemical scientists, assessed by subject experts against a broad set of criteria.
Please be aware that courses you apply for do not need to have been approved by us.
Our training voucher grants opened on 1 January 2021 and closed on 1 September 2022.
Please be aware that if you were successful in your application, we allowed for three months to book your course and claim the money for your voucher. Please consider whether you will be able to pay for the training course in this time period when applying for a grant.
Please note that if you or another employee of your business have received a training voucher in the past six months then we will not typically award another training voucher. If you would like to reapply within the six month period please contact us to discuss first.
The application form should take no longer than 30 minutes to complete.
You can apply through our dedicated applications portal below. Here you will be able to track the progress of your application and submit requests for payment in this portal.
To complete the application form, you will need:
- contact details for you, your line manager, and your company.
- the title, cost and provider of the proposed training course.
- a short business case for the training.
- what plans the company has in place to record the individual’s and company’s training needs.
We have a limited number of training vouchers and the decision to award a training voucher will be made on the strength of the business case. Based on the number of grants we have available, we may prioritize applications for technical training courses, as well as individuals and EnterprisePlus companies that have not previously received funding.
Apply nowYou are eligible to apply for a training voucher if:
- you are a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry and
- are employed by an EnterprisePlus company.
If you need to apply for RSC membership or EnterprisePlus membership you must complete these applications prior to applying for a training voucher.
For information about becoming a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry, please see our membership pages.
Each individual or EnterprisePlus company can only apply for one training voucher per six month period (starting from the date their last training voucher was awarded) unless we have given permission prior to an application.
Contractors and students on placement are not eligible for the scheme.
The vouchers cannot be used for conferences.
Full terms and conditions can be found on our online application form.
If you are awarded a training voucher grant, you will need to book the course within 3 months of your application being approved and submit your reimbursement request to us within this period.
The course does not need to take place within this three month period, however if you anticipate a significant delay in being able to attend the course then you should contact us to discuss.
To claim your training voucher, please login to the "My applications" portal. A task will be available for you to request payment and will ask you to provide:
- Proof of payment of the course
- Bank details for reimbursement
Once we have received and processed these details, payment of the grant is typically a quick process.
Please note that payment of the grant is conditional on the terms and conditions being met.
