Although the introduction states that "To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report on photochemical aromatization of Hantzsch 1,4-dihydropyridines", the authors now acknowledge that J. L. Kurz, R. Hutton and F. H. Westheimer (J. Am. Chem. Soc.,, 1961, 83, 584-588) have reported photochemical reduction of bromotrichloromethane by two dihydropyridine derivatives which produced corresponding pyridine derivatives.
