Chem. Commun., 2001, 925 (DOI: 10.1039/b101972b). Amendment published 30th August 2001

The authors have recently been made aware that they missed citing a paper (R. Kessinger, J. Crassous, A. Herrmann, M. Rüttimann, L. Echegoyen and F. Diederich, Angew. Chem., Int. Ed., 1998, 37, 1919), which describes the preparation and chiroptical properties of enantiomerically pure C76. This paper had already pointed out the error in the CD data reported in reference 1 (J. M. Hawkins and A. Meyer, Science, 1993, 260, 1918), which the authors also mentioned in their communication. According to the CD data reported in Diederich’s paper, the enantiomeric excess of our C76 isolated as the first fraction is estimated to be ca. 80%. The authors regret this oversight and thank Professor Diederich for pointing it out.

The Royal Society of Chemistry apologises for these errors and any consequent inconvenience to authors and readers.
