The authors would like to point out that, after the publication of this paper, they discovered that the title compound had been described previously by Sanjit Konar et al. (S. Konar, P. S. Mukherjee, E. Zangrando, F. Lloret and N. R. Chaudhuri, Angew, Chem., Int. Ed., 2002, 41, 1561–1563). The authors apologise for this omission. The formulas given in title and in the footnote were also incorrectly quoted; the correct formula for the compound is [Ni3(OH)2(O2C–C2H2–CO2)2(H2O)4]·2H2O.
