Based on the careful structural analysis with two-dimensional (2D) NMR and x-ray diffraction, we have confirmed that the reported core structure, 8-oxo-8H-acenaphtho[1,2-b]pyrrol-9-carbonitril, was wrong. It should be corrected as 1-oxo-1H-phenalene-2,3-dicarbonitrile (1). Below we show a scheme about the comparison of the corrected structure with the wrongly assigned structure reported in the 2005 paper.
