The assignment of the NOESY spectra of compound 8 (Scheme 7, supporting information) prompted the authors to interpret the data so that the major product in this reaction adopts a trans-configuration of the two phenyl substituents. However, an X-ray analysis of a corresponding crystalline para-chloro benzene derivative revealed that the cis-products are formed predominantly in these reactions. The authors apologise for their misinterpretation of the NMR data.
