The synthesis of the molecular chalice has been recently reported as a minor product, in a yield of 5% ( A.Y. Lyapunov, V.N. Pastushok, T. I. Kirichenko, C. Y. Kulygina, L. S. Kikot', T. Y. Bogaschenko and N.G. Luk'yanenko, Macroheterocycles, 2010, 1, 86).
