The weighted R-factor wR and goodness of fit S are based on F^2^, conventional R-factors R are based on F, with F set to zero for negative F^2^. The threshold expression of F^2^ > 2sigma(F^2^) is used only for calculating R-factors(gt) etc. and is not relevant to the choice of reflections for refinement. R-factors based on F^2^ are statistically about twice as large as those based on F, and R- factors based on ALL data will be even larger. This is a very large structure and the asymmetric unit comprises one whole cluster. There is severe disorder in the structure. This includes a) eight out of twelve tert-butyl groups on L1 ligands, b) ligated dmf and water molecules, c) co-crystallised solvent associated with ligated dmf occupying space at partial occupancy d) bridging dmf ligands. In some cases (e.g. tert-butyl and ligated dmf / water) it was possible to model this disorder over two positions. In other situations it was not. Restraints were applied in order to make the model chemically sensible and obtain reasonable thermal parameters associated with the disorder. Reported and calculated formulae differ due to the absence of H atoms on some disordered co-crystallised solvent, L1 ligands that are at an average degree of protonation of 1.33 per ligand (see manuscript) and ligated methanol. There was a large amount of diffuse electron density that appeared as disordered DMF but it was not possible to model this disorder appropriately. As a result the routine SQUEEZE was used, which markedly improved the agreement indices. Given the extent of the disorder the number of restraints applied was large, although this is also a factor of structure size. As stated in the manuscript it was possible to identify one MeOH and 5 DMF per asymmetric unit from the electron density map. The remaining density was too diffuse to readily identify solvent type. Elemental analysis on the identifiable solvent was consistent with the formula we used for our calculations, accounting for 436 electrons in the unit cell. We propose that additional solvent loss from the sample may be due to crystallisation with Et2O, the solvent used for vapour diffusion and crystal growth.
