Ascorbic acid treatment to reduce residual halogen-based oxidants prior to the determination of halogenated disinfection byproducts in potable water

Edward T. Urbansky

J. Environ. Monit., 1999, 1, 471. Amendment published 24th November 1999

On p. 471, 2nd column, 2nd paragraph, in the third sentence, 30 mM should read 30 mM, so that the sentence should read: "Experimentally, it is difficult to neutralize residual oxidant without adding a small excess of reducing agent, and residual reducing agent concentrations below 30 mM were shown to adversely affect DBP quantitation."

On p. 472, 2nd column, under Recovery of analytes from fortified tap water, 50 mL should read 50 mL. So that the sentence should read: "Ten replicates were fortified with 50 mL of the 1 : 50 standard of either 551.1A mix or 551.1B mix and 1.00 mL of 0.25 mol dm–3 sulfuric acid (vide supra).
