The authors would like to correct the following errors:

In the Experimental section, 4th paragraph, “A mixture ratio of 1/5 = 6CB/8OCB (w/w)...” should be “A mixture ratio of 1/2 = 6CB/8OCB (w/w)...”.

In the Electronic Supplementary Information, “4-Heptyloxy-4′-cyanobiphenyl (8OCB)...” should be “4-Octyloxy-4′-cyanobiphenyl (8OCB)...” (page 18), “A mixture of 8OCB/6CB (= 1/5 by weight)...” should be “8OCB/6CB (= 2/1 by weight)...”, and “the 8OCB/6CB mixture (1/5, w/w, matrix LC, 0.5 g)...” should be “the 8OCB/6CB mixture (2/1, w/w, matrix LC, 0.5 g)...” (page 19).

The Royal Society of Chemistry apologises for these errors and any consequent inconvenience to authors and readers.
