Electrochemistry Group

The Electrochemistry Group is one of our many Interest Groups. The Interest Groups are member driven groups which exist to benefit our members, and the wider chemical science community, in line with our strategy and charter.

The Electrochemistry Group of the Royal Society of Chemistry represents and co-ordinates the interests of a very wide range of scientists involved with all aspects of electrochemistry.

Objectives

  • To organise events
  • To promote the involvement of postgraduate students in regional, national and international conferences
  • To inform Group members and provide a mechanism for discussion

Meetings

The primary mission of the Electrochemistry Group is to provide a central focus for the development of basic, strategic and applied electrochemistry.

The group plays a central role in the organisation of the main UK national electrochemistry conference every year, the Electrochem Conference Series, which, since the first Electrochem '94 conference in Edinburgh, has established itself as a central forum for discussion and debate.

The Electrochemistry Group also financially supports regional electrochemistry meetings. The idea of such meetings is to allow graduates to give lectures on their PhD work whilst incurring no more costs than travel to and from a local venue.

Summer Project Funding

The Electrochemistry Group offers to support up to one summer project each year on Development of Education Resources for the Teaching of Electrochemistry in Schools

As a pilot, in 2013 we sponsored a project at Imperial College London to develop an Aluminium Air Battery suitable for teaching concepts of battery chemistry of relevance to the A level and GCSE syllabus. The report of this project can be found in the Electrochemistry Newsletter 2013, Issue 3, page 25 or you can read the extract.

Applications are now closed.
