How it Works
Invited Speakers
- World class speakers are invited to present their work
- An introductory lecturer is invited to set the scene for the meeting and a closing lecturer to sum up the meeting
Contributed Speakers
- A call for abstracts is issued for scientists to present their work alongside the invited speakers
- The highest quality abstracts that fit most closely with the themes of the meeting are selected for oral presentation
Pre-prints
- Invited and contributed authors submit their work as full papers which must contain new, unpublished work
- The papers (around 25 invited and contributed) are refereed and then sent to participants as pre-prints a month before the meeting
- Participants have the opportunity to read and consider each paper in advance, therefore the majority of the meeting focuses on discussion of the key issues underlying and connecting the presented papers
Discussion at the Meeting
- Five minutes are allowed for each speaker presentation
- Most of the time is devoted to discussion from participants which might include complementary or contradictory measurements or calculations. All comments are published alongside the papers in the Faraday Discussion Volume
Faraday Discussion Volume
- The whole of the proceedings are subsequently published, including the submitted discussion remarks (those that the contributors said, or think they said or wished they had said)
- Every participant at the conference has the opportunity to make a major contribution and to be published
