Fossil and renewable sources of liquid fuels: Prices, resources, inter-conversion and competition.

24 September 2015, London, United Kingdom

Introduction
Dr. Mark Howard will explore global sources of liquid transport fuels in the context of the long term prospects for fossil and renewable resources, including the future implications for greenhouse gas emissions. Underlying price drivers will be discussed, and the implications of recent trends in the resource base considered. The nature and economics of selected options for converting alternative resources such as gas, coal and biomass into liquid fuels normally derived from crude oil will also be described.
Dr Howard retired from BP in February 2015, after 31 years supporting, developing and delivering technology in the oil, gas, refining and petrochemicals sectors. From January 2010 to his retirement, he was Vice President for BP’s Conversion Technology Centre, based in Hull, London and Chicago. Dr Howard has led major Technology and Engineering organisations within both the Upstream and Downstream sectors, and has experience of managing every part of the technology cycle, from idea generation and invention, through development and implementation, to ongoing support to projects, operations and end customers.

"With once again the energy markets in turmoil with the price of oil collapsing again and shale gas coming to the fore in the UK with recent Government announcements, this is an extremely timely and informative lecture." Professor Mike Green, Chairman of the Royal Society of Chemistry Management Group.
