Guest Evening at Johnson Matthey

25 October 2019 19:00-22:00, Reading, United Kingdom

This event is for RSC Members only

Introduction

Join us for our highly popular annual social event at Johnson Matthey's Reading site. The evening will kick off with some drinks at 7 pm, followed by dinner and a talk titled "Ornamental plants: our future invaders?" delivered by the RHS Chelsea Flower Show Gold medal awardee, Tomos Jones.

The event is open to RSC members and their guests. The event is subsidised by the Thames Valley section so the price is only £15 pp. For your dietary requirements and registration, please contact us via email provided below.

Ornamental plants: our future invaders?

Our gardens are home to 17,000 plant species introduced from all over the world. A small number of these ornamental plants have become invasive, having a detrimental impact on native biodiversity. Climate change could provide opportunities for more plants to become invasive. Are our future invaders growing in your garden? Gardeners are important in Tomos’ approach to this challenging question; this was the focus of a gold medal-winning Discovery Zone exhibit at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. The talk will discuss his experiences from Chelsea, how gardeners can help and how we can understand the impact of climate change on invasive plants from our gardens.
