Keynote speaker: Sophie Hackford
Join this remarkable researcher as she explores how technology is turbocharging everything from rockets to genetics to quantum computers. As an explosion of new tools forces us to confront a future that’s very different to even our recent past, Sophie will ask the big questions about our evolving relationship with machines and unpick the ethical, trust and bias issues in our increasingly 'black-box' society so we can make the most of these extraordinary breakthroughs.
Sophie is CEO of 1715 Labs, a data and AI company that she's currently spinning out of the Astrophysics department at Oxford University with her academic co-founder. This follows a career building businesses for WIRED magazine, for Singularity University at the NASA Research Park in Silicon Valley and, prior to California, the interdisciplinary Oxford Martin School at Oxford University where Sophie raised more than $120m of research investment.
The emerging technology pitches and the masterclasses were great. We may even have found a new project from the challenge workshop.
Well run and professional, with some very interesting content. Great to see the positive interactions between both the small companies and the multinationals.
